I told you, we knit.
LG’s situation is not life threatening, but it is very painful and is an on-going problem resulting from a broken heel back in 1992. [when our parents say don't jump off cliffs into the lake/river/whatever, we should really listen more often i guess] ANYway, without going into the gorey details, LG skin graft has decided to remove itself from her foot. So she needs some padding in order to walk until she has surgery. She layers gauze under her sock to keep it dry and protected, but needs more padding in order to wear shoes. My Weybridge Yarn swatch was perfect for the job! I was laughing while she taped it onto her socks until I remembered that not too long ago people in this country knit gauze for use in war hospitals! Brilliant.
Thank you for your kind words re: LG’s health. We have good news – she was offered a full-time position at her current job and will have health insurance in 3 months! Hurray! Looks like this swatch will be busy for a while.

Maybe I should send LG some swatch pads (to the right address of course. LOL). I’m sure I’ve got some swatches laying around here somewhere.
Congratulations on the full-time position, LG! Stay off those cliffs!
Although, I’m guilty of doing that a few times, minus the broken heel, so I can’t fuss too much.
Yay Insurance!! I knew if we got enough knitters crossing their fingers good things would happen.
terrific, timely post–in many, many ways. thanks for asking about the Condom Amulets and goring right ahead and knitting your own!
you were reading my mind? am in the final throes of a sister site to little red, “Knit A Condom Amulet.” right now we’re working on ways to add your amulet(s) and URLs for local-to-you sex ed and/or HIV/AIDS orgs in your neighborhood.
again, thanks for being so pro-active, as they say, and sharing your delightful site. we’re going to have buttons, too.
yours, naomi
