Some of the Knitterly Things I Love (and a story about a squirrel)
October 17, 2007 by sweetea
Today is a good day. Today, Kelly posted the pattern for the Ironwork Socks! I love these socks and I encourage everyone (yes, both of you) to at least go check these beauties out. As I am usually in the habit of proposing marriage to objects rather than people, I would like to formally offer my hand, for richer or poorer, to these socks, I love them that much. I have already bought the pattern and have decided that no wool I own is good enough for this pattern. Of course I’m still on my mission to by yarn that is locally made in one form or another and comes from happy animals so this might take some time.
I’m getting closer to making a decision about what pattern to use for some lovely tweedy yarn I’ve had for years. I’ve gone back and forth on the Circle Jacket, and when the Yarn Harlot wrote about it yesterday, I was back to considering it as the front runner (I’m easily swayed). I have read a few reviews of this sweater that were not-so-complementary. If anyone (again, both of you) has used this pattern and has any advice for a curvy lady, such as myself, I would greatly appreciate it. I seem to have a hard time deciding what is flattering on my body. [note: Ignore the last post where I mentioned knitting for others. Apparently I will be knitting myself a sweater and a pair, or several, of Ironwork Socks.]
Also, I’ve definitely developed a knitterly crush on Flint Knits, but then again, who hasn’t?
In non-knitting news, I put the storm windows on the porch last night. They are squeaky clean and now our porch seems a bit warmer without the breeze. Autumn is really here, I guess. This was a joint project as LG put yet another cat door in the porch wall. Why another cat door, you might think to yourself. Well friends, we have a squirrel visitor who I shall name right now as Sneaky Bastard. SB (because we love nicknames around here) likes to come in through the cat door and eat things that might be sitting on the kitchen counter. The cats like to sit and watch SB do his thing (I’m sure it’s entertaining) and then go back to sleeping on the couch. Well, yesterday when I got home LG asked me how many of my calcium chews were left in the box on the kitchen counter. Confused, seeing as I had just walked in the door, I said I didn’t know but it was a lot of them. “Well, there are two left now. The squirrel ate them.” THE SQUIRREL ATE APPROXIMATELY 38 CALCIUM CHEWS. *MY* CALCIUM CHEWS! What do I have to do to prevent a little osteoporosis around here, people?! In fact, LG had seen a cat (a neighboring cat of course, NOT one that lives in our house) chasing SB who had a calcium chew in his mouth (you can tell because they are wrapped in foil). So, it was time for a fancy cat door that only lets in OUR cats and not other cats, skunks, opossums, small dogs, and, most importantly, squirrels. It has something to do with a thingy on the cat’s collar and a corresponding thingy on the cat door. Whatever. Just no more squirrel.
Well, after that exciting story I’m going to stop now. To end on an I-love-knitting note, here is what I ordered the other day, thanks to the posting by Shobhana. I am also enjoying her post from Monday linking to an article on racism in the fashion industry.
Ok. Enough. Be well. Photos later. Oh, the Jaywalkers? I’m jinxed. Can’t seem to make it work for now. So don’t expect to see any photos of them.

We had a SB ourselves this past spring. Every time I left anything on the back porch, the mean little stink would drag it off into the yard. LOL
I KNOW! Aren’t they sneaky? They have no morals what so ever! The nerve of some animals….
